Yesterday, a client/friend and I were discussing framing and how daunting a task it can be. Hello Jennifer A! I have all kinds of resources on the topic, so it’s time I share them. I’ll add to this entry from time to time as I know I won’t get everything down on the first try.
. . .
Graphik Dimensions, Ltd., aka pictureframes.com is a great place to build high quality, yet economical, custom sized frames with or without mats. The selection of frame styles is immense, almost to the point of overwhelming. I highly recommend signing up for a few frame samples before buying so that you can get a good idea of how the frame will look on your wall and with your lighting.
Better Homes & Garden’s website has two excellent articles on hanging groupings: Tips for Creating a Stairway Photo Gallery (be sure to look at the slideshow on the bottom) and How to Hang a Grouping
Martha Stewart’s website has many useful links on framing. Try a search for either frame, picture or photo and you’ll find many framing ideas. A few of my favorites: How to Hang a Picture and Arranging Pictures
Also at Pottery Barn: How to Create a Memory Wall

I’m sure I’ve said this before, but watching kids grow up is one of the best aspects of my job. I’ll say it again and again.

Newborns. Oh my. They melt my heart.

A newborn session often goes like this. A quarter of awake time and the rest of the time asleep and that is ok, because we couldn’t get shots like these without a little trip to dreamland.

One of my favorite tricks when selecting portraits for display together, for example in a frame with 2 – 5×7 slots, is to use one picture looking straight on and the other looking at the other picture.

This extra step of consideration adds a bit of drama and energy to an otherwise simple display.

The latest buzzword for me at the moment is “seeing”. Truly seeing.
It’s so easy to find ourselves in a place where we stop paying attention. I call it robot mode. I’m sure you’ve been there. Driving home from the office and suddenly you are pulling into your driveway and you don’t even remember how you got there.
This happens in photography all the time. Once we are able to capture a certain type of shot it’s easy to lose sight of everything else and everything else is often where all the beauty lies.
There are gorgeous moments everywhere you just have to make time to see them. Here’s to looking a little deeper in 2007!
Some recent “seeing”:
