Learning how to play guitar is on my life list. Even so I swear when I added this ukulele to Kendall’s wish list that I had no intention of being one of those parents who wants to live out their dreams through their children. Really. I mean it. I’m not going to do that. I will however be a little (just a little) extra supportive if playing guitar happens to be something she wants to do. For that you can not blame me.

In other news … this weekend is going to be amazing — I’ll be photographing a sure-to-be lovely 10 day old baby girl. Swoon!

Every now and then I stop taking personal pictures.

I like the control of being able to stop since I can’t exactly up and decide I’m not going to shoot for clients anymore. A week or two of not shooting goes by and suddenly I’m struck with the desire to get the camera out of my work bag. Next thing I know I’m taking pictures of the roof out of my office window because Kendall’s napping and I’ve photographed everything in this house to death already.

Lately, it seems every time I pull out of the garage with no one else in the car the first thing I do is reach for my iPhone and and start taking pictures. Yes, right from the car. Usually multiple shots of the same area of sky, a landscape or two, a self portrait, rinse, lather, repeat. It’s my way of holding on to the quiet or maybe my way of making a little noise to disrupt too much quiet. Either way I’ve found it to be great therapy.

A week or two ago while she napped peacefully I was scheming a grand adventure to a local nature area for when she woke up. The weather was perfect. 70 degrees. Sunny. The kind of mid-October day that insists you get of the house and enjoy it or else.

My plans included a game of chase, gravel inspecting and most important to me a perfect portrait shoot in honor of her upcoming birthday. She woke up. We drove over. We chased, we inspected, we chased, we inspected. She made it clear my camera was boring her and that “the portrait shoot” I had envisioned wasn’t going to happen.

Turns out it was nothing like what I imagined. It was even better, that is after I gave up on the notion of perfect and just had fun. Happy Birthday to the most charming person I have ever met!

There’s not enough time for a recent session post. Instead you get an image of our pup Bernie taking a snooze and a few links to help push forward to the weekend!

First up, since we are in a doggie mood, enjoy some gorgeous dog photography from photographers Erin Vey in Seattle and Anna Kuperberg in San Francisco. Both have an incredible talent in capturing a dog’s liveliness and personality.

I came across the next link via swissmiss, which is a great way to spend a Friday all by itself especially so if you love design and a bit of geekery. Blank is Like Blank is self described as “analogies to live by” and if you’re not living by them your missing out on all the fun! Here’s a little selection from the site:

“Apologies are like monsters:
They’re only real if you believe in them.”

“Facebook is like a gossipy friend with no interesting information.”

“Babies are like drunk men in bars:
They only crave what’s in their immediate vicinity.”
—Justin Feinstein—

Finally saved from an issue of Real Simple, a few unique sites for summer travels:

roadfood.com “The most memorable local eateries along the highways and back roads of America”

momsminivan.com “101 Car Travel Games & Road Trip Ideas for Kids”

thebathroomdiaries.com “Few would visit a country without some advanced information, yet our tender bits are exposed to uncharted territories with no help or assistance. At our most vulnerable, we are blind. Well, no more. “

Happy Friday!
